should statement of Ponting "The best is over" needs to be rectified?

Ponting recently claimed that the best is over but he added one statement that completely contradicted the current record that neither is Sachin is at his best, one double ton in ODI is enough for contradicting second part of his statement.

The best can never be over. We expect a lot from Sachin and he can very well settle down to those exppectations

But with the pride that Ponting said this and absolutely no criticism faced by him , I was thinking why the hell people do not reply to his absurd comment.
