India has in general 12 defined holidays and 3 restricted holidays. This makes total 15 days of defined holidays.Government departments have 5 days a week so that it makes another 104 days. Everybody is entitled for 30 days Paid Leave which can be en-cashed if not used.

Ten days sick leave and ten days casual leave. This makes 45% days of the year for Relaxation and Personal work.

Courts and Colleges have on the other end additional vacations. Manufacturing plants, cinema Halls, Airports, railways, news papers etc. does not remain off on any day. As such the 45% more manpower is there to take care of the situation.

Developed countries have almost the same holiday structure and additionally there is a summer vacation, mini spring vacation & Christmas vacation as with this point you will come to know that the developed countries and non-developed countries have similar structure of holidays still they made it well.

Why? The basic issue is not of Holidays but of the efficiency in the working days.

I do agree with the point that we lack in efficiency in our working days. but some times un- certainty does makes the situation unstable my friend. where the question arises of lack of efficiency there may be some problems that could have arose because of family matters or official matters, this is what I feal.

Effienciency in work is in individual's hand.If we go by the statistics we have 45% of free time.Considering the stressful which we are living, rather we made ourselves then it is a good news we are working for 55% of the time. Some holidays becomes mandatory to respect the freedom fighters of the nation. Some holidays are for religious purposes. So we are left with only weekends. There are times when ppl work day & night to complete the task when the rule book states only 8 hrs of work.So I feel holidays shouldn't be restricted in India.Married couples spend most of their time in planning for their everyday chores.Considering the ever running operations like police stations, hospitals, newspapers they are doing shift basis. So for 1 job they have to employ 2-3 ppl since they work on shifts.Talking about the developed countries, even they are working the same as any other ppl from other developing countries.Afterall everyone has 24hrs at their disposal. Its upto the individual to efficiently use it.

I think Indian government employees are getting the optimum number of holidays among the nations around the world. If holidays are reduced then it leads to increase the speed of work and all the pending tasks can be accomplished well in time.
