Should governments censor material on the world wide web?

Despite the generally prevailing principle of freedom of speech in democratic countries, it is widely accepted that certain types of speech are not given protection as they are deemed to be of insufficient value compared to the harm, they cause. Child pornography in the print or broadcast media for instance is never tolerated. The internet should be no exception to these basic standards. Truly offensive material such as hardcore pornography and extreme racial hatred are no different simply because they are published on the world wide web as opposed to a book or video.

information is being shared openly.................and how can the Goverments.....do somthing of this sort..........................

OK, i dont agree with your argument at all, you say it should be the parents responsibility for there children being exposed to bad things, well you are wrong buddy the kids are just being harmless just going on the internet and all of a sudden a picture of a naked lady comes up. That picture will be stuck in their minds for weeks and they wont stop thinking about it! Adults should not be looking at pornography anyways so they need to censor that crap and make the internet a much better place because my definition of the internet is Hell, it really is just full of junk!! sure it has good information on it and helpful things, but it has gone way too far now! and they need to filter out the crap on here before it gets much worse. end of story, i dont agree with you guys who say it should not be censored.

nly people with weak arguments and large arrogance, tiny thought process, and want total control of others, want censorship of the internet.

1 freedom of speech.
2 freedom from unwarranted search and seizure.
3 the road to hell is paved with good intentions. we might trust one person that would do good with it, but sooner or latter someone that wants control over others will come along and corrupt it before anyone recognizes it. then its too late for everyone.

I think censoring can reduced up to some extent the possibilities of children find and being able to access inappropriate elements on the web. And it is definitely the parents choice if they prevent their kids form opening certain items on the internet. Even the internet is a risky area where there is a chance of individuals personality and private information to be affected.
