I strongly oppose this idea of part time job for students. Rather I'll support only full time jobs during vacations.
Age of college goers is much prone to be influenced by silver linings on other side of life. They need money for fun-n-enjoyment, friendships, celebrations of various days, movies, clubs, pubs, mobiles, etc. etc.
The age itself is culprit for this in availability of plenty of knowledge & resources. large number of parents already had lost control to circumvent / limit much of such activities. In addition to this, if students start earning, students will be able to fulfill there extra needs and spending will come without hesitations.
As a result stagnation may occur, other needs like good higher education will become supplementary and can be omitted as well. There are many who owned their family businessman like the shopkeeper or baniya's are comparatively less educated. The reason is simple, at the age of 17 / 18 they start contributing to there parents business and get diverted from core education.
In case of families having business money is not landing directly in the hands of children for misuse as they are full-time engaged in own business. But in other cases the money earned will go in wasteful manner only, objectives may change and we may see larger fallouts of talent from colleges.
Of course, this is not applicable to all, but this will be the truth with majority. An ultimate objective of learning is earning only. If earning comes first, then naturally learning will take backseat which even tend to neglect also.
