In the workplace decisions about recruitment, promotion and dismissal depends on the age..

Employers are reluctant to hire workers who they perceive to be too young and immature for the job..

Is it unlawful to discriminate against employees and job seekers because of their age..

To certain extent, I am in favor of age discrimination if thought in correct context.
Each job required certain qualifications, experience. I also agree if certain PHD holder with no experience should not be considered as a fresher. But, experience also plays important part. There are rules for early promotions in certain organisations. There should be difference between experience professionals and a fresher’s. Fine structure and processes should be made to regulate all exceptional cases on both the sides for early promotion and to delay promotion. I think Appraisals play important role and can be deciding factors for associates to move up the ladder. Age also decides the cost to company. If a trainee is required for doing coding work, then why should we have experience person? If Manager is required for handling Branch recruitment, then I doubt a fresher with a degree from reputed institute will be that successful. Finally.. Cost also plays important role.
It is an age of competition and fresher’s also compete during there school and college days. Students with good grades always have advantage. Not if age is discriminatory then how can we differentiate between good grades and bad grades?

Right or wrong discrimination on the basis of age is a perception which is held by people . Perceptions cannot be legalized or made illegal

Age discrimination always exists not only in work place even at home. This is because we rightly give more weightage for one's experience associated with age.

Instead of using the word discrimination we may say giving importance or priority to seniors.Discrimination rather connotes a negative feeling.

It is not possible to make age discrimination is illegal because identification part and implementation of this dicrimination is rather difficult.

Instead of aking about illegality or legality it is better we discourage such discrimination in fields of life whether in work place or at home.

No, I don't think that making age discrimination illegal would be the right step.
Every thing have some pros and cons.Similarly this thing has its own.
But, experience matters a lot at some level so aged people due know much better than young ones but limited to some context like in a corporate world.

that trend is now changing....if u see let of comapnies like infosys and TCS are hriring fresh talents in bulk..train them and make them suitable for the position they hv been employed.earlier, people used to think differently.

Age discrimination is important where expertise is very critical. Say for example if you have to get a heart surgery done, will you not want an experienced doctor to operate on you? Keeping your preference in mind a Hospital would obviously hire an experienced doctor. But if you are going to an icecream vendor who disperses icecream, you would probably not worry much if the person is young or old. In that case the employer would probably not discriminate.
