Sharad Purnima Celebrations at IIM A

Sharad Purnima, also called the Kojaagari Purnima or Kumar Purnima, a harvest festival which marks the end of monsoon and celebrated on the full moon day of the Lunar month of Ashvin in honour of Goddess Lakshmi would be celebrated on the 25th of October 2015 for the first time at the IIM Ahmedabad Campus. The festivities will begin at 8 PM at the Louis Kahn Plaza with performances by Rajasthani Langa musicians and Kalbelia Dancers.

The Langas literally meaning 'song givers' are folk poets, singers and musicians from Rajasthan's Barmer district. They are versatile players of the Sindhi Sarangi and the Algoza (double flute) which accompany their magical voices. The Kalbelia dance is performed by a tribe from Rajasthan by the same name who replicate the movements of a serpent by dancing and swirling their flowing black skirts to music from instruments like the pungi, the dufli, the kanjari and the dholak. The Kalbelia dances and songs are part of the UNESCO Intangible Heritage List from 2010. Local delicacies Dudh Pauva and Methi na Gota will be served as part of the celebrations.

The Sharad Purnima celebration is sponsored by the IIM Ahmedabad PGP Batch of 1980. The event is being conducted by the IIM Ahmedabad Heritage Club in association with the IIM Ahmedabad Alumni Association, Ahmedabad Chapter and the IIM Ahmedabad Cultural Committee. The event is exclusive to the alumni of the institute and the members of the IIM A community.
