ideaken (ideaken - collaborate to innovate) is hosting a challenge seeking creative solutions to get rid of the traffic jam which plague most of the Indian cities today. Here is your chance to show your creativity, earn money and get popular. Interested? Read on for more details:

Most of the urban cities in India today have a traffic jam problem which results in loss of person hours, causes environmental damage, and increases fuel wastage.

There are thousands of suggestions received to resolve traffic issues by the planning authorities and traffic management agencies across India, however most of them lack either the impact (return on investment), solve too little of a problem or underplay the dependencies which exists to implement those solutions.

Seeker is expecting a comprehensive solution for the “Traffic Jam” problem in the urban cities.

Seeker is expecting solutions for one or both of the following categories.

Category 1 - High impact, low cost, practical, implementable
Category 2 - High impact but DOES NOT NEED TO be low on cost, practical or implementable

Category 2 needs a theoretical solution. Can the solution of traffic Jam come from the problem itself? How do we make the traffic jam problem self heal? Feel free to go WILD with your imagination without thinking about how it can be implemented (Applicable only for category 2)

So get started today. Register for free at ideaken - collaborate to innovate and give your creative solution today! Contest runs up to July 2010.

Happy Solving

The solution to the traffic problem in India requires massive awarenes.... public awareness. we need to stop the blame game and start expecting our resposibilities becuase whatever said and done these jams effect our life.

Major Causes of the Traffic jam.

1. Too many vehicles-massive stress on the infrastructure.
2. Not upto the mark Infrastructure.
3. Ill trained Traffic department- less hands to control.
4. No traffic rule awareness among the drivers.
5. Improvement of the kind of vehicle running on the road.

Solution.

Lets arrange the causes in way that they can be easily handled.

1. awarenes of the traffic rules.. this is most easy to handle.
let everyperson driving on the road know everything about the traffic rules.
if he fails this test he should not be allowed to drive.
Paying fine rarely effects the mentality of the drivers and they also know how to negotiate it. Offenders licence should be cancelled if this offense exceeds certain numbers. we can form a rule about.
Traffic signals should electronically monitored so that offenders can be caught onthe camera and could be reprimanded later on . It is difficult for a single policeman to monitor 1000 and more cars.

2. there should be some rules made on the numbers of vehicles that a person is buying on an individual name.

3. more electronic inputs to be provided by the traffic police to the people on road inthe form of electronic bill boards displaying traffic jams and stoppage times so that drivers can avoid jams.

We Know that the infrastructure cannot improve overnight we have to be patience and help the government maintain the infrastrure that we already have.

there are lot that can be said and done because this the prime issue for the metro city dwellers.

Hi Anandswapn,
Hope you have registered at ideaken - collaborate to innovate and have put the points mentioned below.
While the points are good, you really need to be creative to try and come up with solutions since this problem really calls for a creative answer. We can't expect people or the infrastructure to change overnight. So while your solutions are on the right track, am not sure they can be easily implemented (for eg: increase awareness of traffic rules - Govt has tried publicising this but still lot more needs to be done and it is amazing how people think they own the roads when they get on to it). Anyway my point is - try to be creative and work through some of these changes systematically as you really can't expect people or infrastructure to change overnight.

Others - What are you waiting for? Here is your opportunity. I know most of you have experienced traffic jams and had many ideas and suggestions on how to avoid this. Please participate and spread the word around. We need help from all you creative thinkers to solve this issue.

Cheers

Madhu
