Sachin powers Blues to 381

New Delhi: India Blues on Monday came back to the Chinnaswamy Stadium to avenge their surprise loss at the hands of India Red, and posted a mammoth 381 runs in their 50 overs.

The second game of the Challenger Trophy began with India Blues winning the toss and choosing to bat first against India Green on Monday and Sachin Tendulkar was back doing what he does best, striking centuries, creaming the Green bowlers all around the park.
India Blues got off to a poor start as Greens pacer Laxmipathy Balaji induced an edge from Tanmay Srivastava’s bat that was clasped by Parthiv Patel behind the stumps for duck.

Irfan Pathan, who came in at No 7 during Sunday’s loss to Reds, was promoted back to No 3 to partner Tendulkar at the crease.
And both were soon belting the ball over the park. Tendulkar was the more devastating of the two hitting young Piyush Chawla for two sixes and two fours in his first over.

The Little Master reached his fifty off 43 balls when he hoisted Chawla for a six on the second ball that he faced from the youngster.
Pathan, too, got busy wielding the long handle and went on to hit four fours and three sixes in his 54 runs. Saurasish Lahiri finally caught him off the bowling of Piyush Chawla.

Dravid replaced Pathan with the score reading 132/2 in 17.3 overs.
Tendulkar continued from where he had left on Sunday and went on to score a blistering century in just 69 balls that included 16 fours and two sixes. He celebrated his ton by hoisting the ball out of the ground for his third six.

His blistering knock though was cut short at 139 in the 35th over by leggie Piyush Chawla who had him caught by Mohammad Kaif. Sachin had faced only 100 balls and had 20 fours and four sixes against his name.

Skipper Dravid, desperately trying to get his lost form back, managed to hold fort initially and then struck some lusty blows en route to his half-century. He utilised the long handle to good effect too, striking three sixes, quite uncanny of The Wall.

India Blue are playing their second game of the tournament. They lost the first on Sunday to India Red by 21 runs with 15 balls to spare, which has landed them in a precarious position, as Monday’s game is a must-win.

Virender Sehwag was ruled out of the game after pulling a hamstring during Sunday’s game. 16-year-old opener Tanmay Srivastava replaced Sehwag.

The India Green team includes many contenders for the India cap once more after being left out either due to injury or lack of form. Former captain Sourav Ganguly will also be seen in action later in the day, as he would open the batting with Wasim Jaffer.

India Blue: Tanmay Srivastava, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid (C), Yuvraj Singh, Dinesh Mongia, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (WK), Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Ajit Agarkar, Munaf Patel, Rudra Pratap Singh.

India Green: Wasim Jaffer, Sourav Ganguly, Mohammad Kaif (C), Hemang Badani, Suresh Raina, Parthiv Patel (WK), Piyush Chawla, Praveen Kumar, L Balaji, Ashish Nehra, Saurasish Lahiri.
