TO SETUP A SCHOOL IN GUNDE VILLAGE FROM THE FUNDS RAISED


Conduct various initiatives all over Mumbai on Jan 3rd and 4th

Mumbai, Jan 4, 2015:

This New Year the youth of the city joined hands and pledged to make this world a better place. The youth has come together to enlighten the lamp of literacy; has stood up for the cause of education and worked towards realizing the dreams of underprivileged and needy.

The young and vibrant Rotaractors of Mumbai celebrated 'World Responsible Youth Day'(WRY) 2015 on the 3rd and 4th January, 2015. The theme for 2015 being 'EDUCATION', is celebrated to mark the responsibility that youth of the world must imbibe. The day is celebrated on the first Sunday of every year. The event is happening for seventh year in a row and for the first time Rotaract Mumbai (RI 3140) will be setting up a school in Gunde village from the funds raised through WRY.

On the 4th January, 2015 various road shows including skits, street plays, rally, were held at Worli, Malad, Juhu, Dadar and Marine Drive. This was city wide rally on the 4th of January, 2015 in Mumbai.

The rally started with the Mega Marathon - "Dream Run" where Mumbai ran for the cause of education at Worli Seaface. After the Marathon enthusiastic rotaractors performed outside Arrey Dairy at Worli Seaface and moved on to Kurar Village,Malad after which the Rotaractors performed at Juhu Beach post which the rally headed to Dadar for the performance art Shivaji Park, Dadar and the grand two day rally ended with the last performance at Marine Drive.

The performances spread the desired message of eradicating illiteracy and appealed youth to come forward for this cause. The rotaractors performed at key locations, which started off with a street play and ended with flash mob which garnered a lot of attention. Then Rotractors enacted a skit that portrayed various social evils that lead to illiteracy and how we could be the change we wish to see by taking a step as simple as investing our time to educate our house help. The performances and cause was appreciated and supported by the audience who witnessed the WRY rally, flashmob and streetplay. Many people came forward and inquired how they could contribute towards the cause and contributed for theRotaractSchool.

The plays included portrayal of various reasons that might lead to illiteracy and how we could be the change we wish to see by taking a step as simple as investing our time to educate our house help. Key Highlight of the Rally on Jan 3rd and 4th was the marathon which is the "Dream Run" that happened on 4th January at Worli Seaface and performances by the youth for the cause of education across Mumbai and Thane.

District Rotaract Representative Rtr. Hemang Jakhia, said, "We are proud and delighted to celebrate World Responsible Youth Days on Jan 3rd and 4th. Today's Youth has the passion and the determination to take on the responsibility to bring the change and make the world a better place to live. Rotaract represents the same responsible youth. Being the world's largest youth movement, Rotaract has been undertaking various causes. The WRY Week, this year, will focus on 'Education'. Around 4000 Rotaractors across the city will motivate and encourage youth to step up and contribute towards the cause of education of underprivileged and needy through the means of time or monetary support."

Rotaract in Mumbai is already undertaking project Shiksha since July 2010 where young Rotaractors are already involved in the process of educating underprivileged kids through NGOs as well as on individual level.

Rotaract District 3140 comprises of over 100 clubs all over Mumbai and enjoys a total membership of over 4500 Rotaractors. We are the Youth Wing of the Rotary Club.
