BRUCE BARRINGER, PH.D., holds the Johnny D. Pope chair in
entrepreneurship and heads the School of Entrepreneurship at the

BILL ELLIOTT, CPA, is an accounting professor at Oral Roberts
University in Tulsa. He is a certi?ed public accountant, certi?ed
internal auditor and certi?ed information technology professional.
Before joining ORU, Bill was the director of faculty development at
Oklahoma State University’s Institute for Teaching and Learning
Excellence and a lecturer in OSU’s School of Accounting. Elliott has
received numerous teaching awards from the OSU Spears School of
Business and Oral Roberts University.
LEE MANZER, PH.D., is a professor of marketing at the OSU Spears
School of Business. Since coming to OSU in 1975 he has served as
department head, director of graduate studies, and director of the
Small Business Institute. A nationally recognized expert on service
implementation, he has presented service quality, goal setting and
leadership material to over 300 pro?t and nonpro?t organizations.
Manzer has received numerous teaching awards from the Spears
School of Business and Oklahoma State University. He has taught
more than 23,000 students at OSU.
MICHAEL H. MORRIS, PH.D., holds the N. Malone Mitchell, Jr. chair in
entrepreneurship and founded the School of Entrepreneurship at the
Spears School of Business. Named one of the top entrepreneurship
professors in the country by Fortune Small Business in 2007,
Morris is widely published in academic journals, has authored
several books and has been recognized for his development of
award-winning entrepreneurship programs in higher education.
He has launched two ventures and has received numerous awards
including the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.
He was honored as the Outstanding Faculty Member by three
graduating MBA classes at Syracuse University.

THE COWBOY BOOTCAMP FOR ENTREPRENEURS is a program for dreamers and doers offered by the
Riata Center for Entrepreneurship and the School of Entrepreneurship at the Spears School of Business. Like
a bootcamp, it is focused, intense and packed with useful material. Building from key elements of Oklahoma
State University’s entrepreneurship curriculum, the Cowboy Bootcamp is a series of modules designed to assist
entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs in growing businesses successfully and pro?tably.
A team of entrepreneurship faculty and a number of successful entrepreneurs will provide a fun and interactive
hands-on experience, moving back and forth from introducing ideas and concepts to applying them to new and
growing businesses. Bootcamp participants will be exposed to critical concepts, ideas and approaches that work in
creating successful ventures, as well as common mistakes and pitfalls to avoid.
WHERE: OSU-Tulsa • 700 N. Greenwood Ave., Tulsa, OK 74106
DATES: Six Saturdays • Oct. 6, 13, 20, 27 & Nov. 3, 10
TIME: 8:30 a.m. to noon, plus optional one-hour sessions
on selected Saturdays
FEE: $650
A limited number of $200 IAS, APSCO and Lohrey scholarships are available
to quali?ed applicants, based on need.
Fee includes continental breakfast and graduation luncheon.
THE COWBOY BOOTCAMP FOR ENTREPRENEURS is broadly
targeted towards individuals with an idea for a venture they would
like to start, those who have launched a venture and are in the early
stages, and those who are just curious about what it takes to be an
entrepreneur. The only basic requirement is a desire to learn about
entrepreneurship and successful enterprise development.
Basic bootcamp sessions are divided into modules that cover all
the basic things you need to know about starting or growing
a successful venture. Special tracks will address issues of
technology-based/growth businesses.
• What is a good business concept, and how can
I determine if my idea is a good one?
• What is a business model, and does my
business model make sense?
• Do I really need a business plan, and if
so, how can I write a good one?
• What do I need to know about my customer and
my market, and how can I get answers?
• Where and how do I get fnancing? How much is enough?
• How do I make sense of the numbers, and
what numbers really matter?
• When do I need a lawyer, what are the key legal
issues and how can I use my lawyer effectively?
• How do I protect my ideas, trademarks and names?
• What is guerilla marketing? Are there ways to do
more with marketing while spending less?
• How should I approach growth? What does it
really take to succeed in business by myself?
• Where do I go to get information to organize a new business?
