Reverse Brain Drain

India witnessed brain drain for several decades. Hundreds of thousands of our qualified youngsters took off for higher studies or highly lucrative jobs in the US and prefer to settle down there attracted by the facilities and quality of life provided by this country and started living the perfect AMERICAN DREAM. The reason I only mentioned this country is because INDIANS are the third largest immigrants over there. The US companies provided them with great pay packages, good facilities for living and certainly for these things how can we dissuade ourselves from going abroad? This topic has been debated over for a long and on most of occasions our own shoved us how bad we are in terms of infrastructure, IT, welfare facilities etc.

But come the period of 2017 the tables seem to have turned. Suddenly India has now started to witness the reverse brain drain. Recently surveyed data regarding Indians leaving US indicates that nearly 7000 Indians have applied to come home in the quarter of March the highest in last 15 quarters. The reason seems to be stagnation in US IT space and our dear TRUMP UNCLE. US president DONALD TRUMP gave the Indian IT companies a stunning blow with his policies regarding H1B visa and America First, correct from their perspective. Or is it that INDIA is rightly placed in terms of global economic scenario? Well that can be debatable. But crux of the matter is suddenly India is being remembered by the sophisticated Indians abroad who once showed cold shoulders to their very owns, and they even are returning.

So, what is making NRI's return to India? Firstly, India is the fastest growing economy in the world and with the population that has incredible purchasing power and is driven by youngsters, the perception of the country is fast changing. A plethora of opportunities are opening within the country and there are untouched markets and virgin sectors that are still waiting to be tapped. With India have a mushrooming middle class that is now seeking out to more aspirational elements and the fact that India's GDP is the third largest in terms of purchasing power parity, the world of opportunities is certainly endless.

The Government of India in fact has taken concrete measures to woo back scientists who have left the country. This is being done under the Ministry of Science and Technology who are in talks with several eminent sciences across the world. The PM has also explicitly stated that the Government has an agenda of 'reviving romance for science in India'. The Government is not just offering a conducive social environment but also fellowships and an opportunity to work in reputed organizations to ensure that these scientists return home. Again, several second-generation Indians are returning to India to reconnect with their roots and not miss out on its heritage. What really seems to be working in the country's favour is a blend of new opportunities; government impetus and somewhere an emotional connect with the country of birth. In all it is certainly safe to say that India is shining and even brighter with its talent returning home.
