Web Designer (Full-Time, W-2)

About You

You're the kind of designer who can't walk past a storefront, billboard, or website without analyzing the typography, color palette, and layout hierarchy.

You've studied how brands like Anthropologie, Madewell, Glossier, and Magnolia make people feel something and you’re obsessed with creating that same emotional pull through thoughtful, conversion-driven design.

You’re not just here to make things pretty. You design experiences that feel like a trusted conversation. You’re inspired by what’s trending, but you know how to make a client’s brand feel unique, never cookie-cutter.

You obsess over details, but you don’t get stuck in them. You probably have a Pinterest board full of modern serif fonts, perfect buttons, and photography that makes people want to click “add to cart.” You’ve either worked with eCommerce brands or followed enough of them to know what good looks like and what feels off.

Most importantly: You’re not interested in being a cog in a wheel. You’d rather work on a scrappy, fast-moving team where your ideas actually shape the work. You take the work seriously — not yourself. You’re the kind of person who can give and take feedback with a smile, share memes between milestones, and dive deep when it’s go-time. We’re a fun, supportive, no-drama crew, and we want someone who fits right in.

Bonus points if:

  • You know why brand ≠ logo — and love helping clients figure that out

  • You follow people like Charli Marie, Dan Mall, Ran Segall, or Josh Comeau

  • You’ve designed for ecom brands or Shopify storefronts before

  • You’ve ever said, “this font is giving the wrong vibe” and knew exactly what you meant

  • You’ve ever thought a little less of someone because they’ve never watched The Office or Parks and Rec

About Capital Commerce

We're Capital Commerce, and we're not your typical "we help everyone with everything" agency. We have one focus: helping successful brick-and-mortar retailers ($1M+ revenue) translate their in-store success into online sales without losing what makes them special in-store.

While other agencies are throwing spaghetti at the wall with generic strategies, we've cracked the code on retail-to-online transformation. Our 12-week Momentum program doesn't just build websites - it creates integrated growth engines that feel like natural extensions of their physical stores.

Why this matters: When we succeed, independent retailers hire more people, serve more customers, and keep small towns thriving. It's marketing with actual meaning behind it.

Our culture: We work hard, celebrate wins, send way too many GIFs, and genuinely care about our clients' success. We're growing fast but we're not jerks about it. We believe in systems over hustle, results over hours, and that the best marketing feels helpful, not salesy.

Job Summary

We’re looking for a Web Designer who thrives in a collaborative, fast-moving environment and is excited to build conversion-focused websites and branding for independent retail brands. You’ll play a key role in shaping the digital presence of our clients—from early discovery and brand identity to final Shopify site design and handoff.

This isn’t your typical agency role. You’ll be part of a specialized, mission-driven team with a focus on quality, efficiency, and support. You’ll also contribute to Capital Commerce’s internal marketing efforts through digital design work, lead magnets, and visuals that support our own brand presence and client pipeline.

If you’re organized, coachable, client-conscious, and ready to grow alongside a collaborative team—you might be a perfect fit.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mockups for client Shopify websites (home, collection, and product pages) using Sketch

  • Collaborate with the team to build out the client’s Brand Identity Blueprint (color palette, fonts, brand visuals) in Canva

  • Contribute to early-stage discovery sessions around brand voice, visuals, values, and ideal customer

  • Apply conversion best practices to design layouts that support eCommerce growth

  • Revise designs based on client and internal feedback in a professional, timely manner

  • Work closely with developers and our client success team to ensure site designs align with key strategies and client goals

Internal Responsibilities

  • Support internal marketing by designing lead magnets (PDFs, downloads), social graphics, webinar assets, and funnel graphics

  • Occasionally collaborate on team initiatives or troubleshoot urgent client needs

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Join weekly internal project check-ins and client kickoff meetings

  • Manage deadlines for multiple clients at various stages of design

  • Use Sketch and Canva to create new designs or revise based on feedback

  • Stay in communication with the team (Slack, Basecamp, Loom, Zoom) to keep projects moving forward smoothly

  • Track and update your deliverables in Basecamp to stay aligned with the team and timelines

How This Role Fits Into the Organization

Design is essential to our delivery. As our designer, you’ll work closely with our creative team, marketing coach, and developers to ensure each client has a brand and website that reflects their story and brings their unique brand experience online. Your ability to think from the client’s perspective, collaborate with teammates, and contribute across departments makes you a key pillar in our growing agency.

Required Qualifications (Hard Skills)

  • Strong understanding of design principles, layout, and visual hierarchy

  • Proficiency in Canva and familiarity with Sketch (or with other design mockup tools like Figma, Photoshop, etc)

  • Basic understanding of eCommerce design best practices

  • Comfortable managing multiple projects and hitting deadlines consistently

Required Qualifications (Soft Skills)

  • Excellent time management — proactive with timelines and deliverables

  • Strong communication — keeps the team informed, asks good questions, and clarifies scope

  • Receptive to feedback — revises designs without ego and seeks continuous improvement

  • Team-oriented — jumps in to support others and contributes to a positive work culture

  • Client-aware — thinks about what the client’s customer needs and what will convert, not just what looks good

Bonus (Nice-to-Have) Qualifications

  • Experience designing for conversion and retention (especially in eCommerce)

  • Prior work with retail brands or DTC websites

  • Advanced Sketch and Canva proficiency

  • Professional understanding of email design, ad creative, and/or marketing funnels

What We Offer

  • 401k with company matching, paid time off, mental health reimbursement, and QSHERA health care reimbursement

  • A role on a no-ego, high-performance team that supports each other and learns together

  • A clear, proven process that sets clients up for success (no guessing what to do next)

  • Ownership over your craft with support when you need it

  • Fully remote work environment with flexibility and autonomy

  • Opportunity to grow with a company that’s defining a new space in retail + eCommerce
