RCL bets big on m-commerce services
In a bid to tap the ever-growing potential of mobile-commerce (m-commerce), Reliance Communications has tied up with Reliance Energy to provide a bill-payment service to more than 2.5 million customers of the power company.
In the electricity bill payment application, Reliance Energy customers can view and/or pay their bills over Reliance Mobile using ITZ cash card, after a simple registration procedure. An internet connection is not required for this purpose.
Besides, the Anil Ambani group company, which has also tied up with entertainment firms such as Adlabs, Fame Cinema and PVR Cinemas, will enable booking of movie tickets over mobile phones.
“The fast-growing subscriber base in the country offers significant opportunities in providing mass-market and niche m-commerce applications, and Reliance Communications is confident of enhancing its leadership in this arena by introducing a slew of innovative services,” Mahesh Prasad, president - application and solutions group, Reliance Communications, said in a statement issued here.
The movie ticket-booking service will initially be available for 57 screens across Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bangalore, while 10 more cities will be added to the list later.
The company is also looking at tying up with Inox and the Cinemax theatres as part of this initiative.
Reliance Mobile World’s applications include mobile TV, videos, cricket updates, music, ringtones, mobile mail, messaging, city and TV guides, among others.
