'Recover Rs 3.76 crore IPL dues from SRK fast'

KOLKATA: Prasun Mukherjee, former President of the Cricket Association of Bengal, has shot off a five-page letter to the Jagmohan Dalmiya-led regime asking it to approach Shah Rukh Khan-owned Red Chillies Entertainment to recover IPL dues to the tune of Rs 3.76 crore.

"It's been more than two months ever since the new administration came into existence... and they are yet to show enough urgency to sort out the matter with my consultation," Mukherjee said.

"It's the Red Chillies Entertainment who has to repay the dues... The CAB should approach them to recover the due amount. But in the past two months, there have been little attempts by the present administration. On the contrary, attempts have been made to malign me and my way of running the (IPL) show," he added.

With Dalmiya not available, CAB joint-secretary Biswarup Dey termed Mukherjee's claims as baseless saying, "There is no written documents pertaining to it... How can you approach somebody (Shah Rukh Khan) on basis of somebody's letter?"

The newly-elected CAB administration, after taking charge of Bengal cricket two months back, had often alleged that the Mukherjee-led administration overspent while hosting Kolkata Knight Riders during the April 20-May 25 extravaganza.

Dalmiya, in fact, in their last working committee meeting on September 19 had said they would write to Mukherjee to get the "account summary of an expenditure of about Rs 7.26 crore which is yet to be met."

On September 22 CAB wrote a letter to Mukherjee and the former city police commissioner replied on September 27, suggesting that Dalmiya and Co. should approach Red Chillies Entertainment to recover the due amount.

The Eden hosted seven IPL matches and apparently spent Rs 7.26 crore, overshooting the actual budget of Rs 3.5 crore.

Incidentally, Dalmiya met Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan at the Eden recently and after a 30-minute meeting said the Bollywood actor was ready for a comeback to the city though certain "grey areas needed to be sorted out".
