REAL ICONS OF CHANGE[/b]

A lecture series to inspire young Indians, through life changing stories[/b]

Ahmedabad, July 27, 2013: Social Access Communications launches the inaugural lecture of its ten-part series Real Icons of Change (RIOC), at the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 6.00 pm, at Ravi J Mathai Auditorium, IIM.[/b]

The Real Icons of Change series has been conceived and produced by Social Access Communications to reach out to and inspire the leaders of tomorrow. The lecture will be hosted in association with Confluence 2013 – IIM-A's Annual International Business Summit and IIM A Cultural Committee's Voyager in celebration of the Golden Jubilee Batch (1963-2013) of IIM A and as a precursor to Confluence 2013 to be held from 29th November to 1st December.[/b]

RIOC are people who have achieved something spectacular through incredibly high levels of personal endeavour. They are an inspiration to young people to overcome their fears and limitations, and make a difference in society. They are not celluloid celebrities with a high glamour quotient; but 'ordinary' people with extraordinary drive, commitment and are honest, fair, consistent and persistent! [/b]

The series takes groups of three RIOC's on a national tour of premier educational institutions, like the IIMs, over a ten month period. The programme entails a 20-minute presentation by each of the three speakers followed by a question and answer session.[/b]

The three speakers are AbhilashTomy, India's first nonstop circumnavigator; Max Chandra, a man who is walking the length and breadth of India to raise funds for causes, and Arunima Sinha, India's first amputee mountaineer to climb the Everest.[/b]

About the Speakers:[/b]

  • Abhilash Tomy is an Indian Naval Pilot. He became the first Indian and the 79th in the world to circumnavigate the globe, solo, non-stop and unassisted, over a 150-day voyage.[/b]
  • Arunima Sinha is a former national-level volleyball player, who lost a leg after being thrown off a moving train. On April 1, 2013 she became the first Indian amputee to conquer Mount Everest. It took 52 days to reach the summit.[/b]
  • Max Chandra is the founder of 'One Step at a Time' charitable foundation. He is walking through every state of India, not simply as an individual challenge, but to gain personal insights into and improve the lives of the underprivileged and vulnerable people he encounters along the way.[/b]
