Punishement for Parental Abandonment--Good or Bad?

Recently,a law was passed in both the houses stating that the children will be punished for abandoning their old parents. This is a welcome intiative from one perspective. But on moral grounds do you think that parents will be happy enough to stay in their child houses even after sufferings?According to me,most parents abandoned by their children are happy at homes. They are meeting persons similar to them and atleast they will pass their time with them. After this law, parents are tied to their respectice houses inspite of their sufferings. Why is this law?Let them atleast live happily somewhere.I'm not supporting the concept of parents abandonment. But it is happening today. So implementing such a kinda of law is not the solution for this.

Wht will happen if parents are being forced to admit tht they have voluntarily gone to the homes.I leave it to the lawyers to tell me "Will the law punish the child in such a kinda scenario"?

Hey there,

I feel that the Parental Abandonment Act is a very postive action taken by the Indian Goverment

If the person who is above the age of 60 wants to spend his life away from his family he should be given the right to do that, but if he is forced to do that then the goverment should take actions by punishing the Child of the respective person and also the goverment should not allow any earnings or any property that is in the name of the Parent to be passed on to his children... and also the Parent should posses the rights to ask for his monthly expenses from his children which should be fixed by the regulatory bodies...

by this way the goverment can help the Senior Citizens as the Population of India above the age of 60 according to the 2001 cencus was 76.25 million people which is expected to reach to 173 million people by 2025 and this population have to be taken care of...

Now giving it a different View,

India is now taking a big step towards becoming a Superpower which it would only become if it utilizes its strenghts to its Optimum level and the Greatest strenght of India is its "PEOPLE"...
So i feel goverment should also think of giving an oppouirtunity to these Senior Citizens to start their life again and spend there time working and helping the Country to grow along with Growing themselves...

Take Care...

HEY GRT post by Ross.......
well i completely agree...... though suspending the emotional issues butstill it is unethical to throw ur parents out of their home... but v cannot negate dat this is the fact....and again wats da use of clinging 2 ur children if the dont want u!
yes, the monthly "alimony" shoud be made mandatory..... also special old-age homes should be build where these ppl can earn to live a RESPECTABLE life......
also they should be made aware that this can be something that can happen to each 1 of them..... so make provisions 4 it!!!

WELL I THINK THE LAW IS GOOD AS WELL AS BAD.ATLEAST PEOPLE WILLL NOT ABANDON THEM SO EASILY.BUT THE MORE PROBLAMATIC THING IS THAT IT WILL LEAD TO MORE EXPLOITATION AND CRUELTY BY CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY CANNOT DO AWAY WITH THEIR PARENTS.OLD AGE HOMES ARE GOOD BUT THAT IS WHAT NIT THE OLD PEOPLE WOULD HAVE VISIONED WHEN THEY WHERE YOUNG AND RAISING THEIR CHLD WITH SO MUCH LOVE AND AFFECTION
