Description
Work–life balance is a concept including proper prioritizing between "work" (career and ambition) and "lifestyle" (health, pleasure, leisure, family and spiritual development/meditation). Related, though broader, terms include "lifestyle calm balance" and "lifestyle choices".
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Binani Zinc is the pioneer in the manufacture of high grade electrolytic zinc in India since 1967. It is the first Indian company to operate a customized zinc smelter designed for 100% imported zinc concentrate. The first Indian company to produce special high grade quality of zinc with 99.995% purity. The objectives of the study are to understand the work-life balance of the employees of the company. For this a descriptive study was conducted. The data was collected through questionnaire and interviews and other secondary sources like company manuals and reports. The target group selected for the study is the managerial staff of Binani Zinc. The sampling method used for this is convenient sampling. A sample size of 43 is taken. The study reveals that most of the employees of Binani Zinc have a proper work-life balance , and that they are able to handle their work lives as well as family lives effectively.
INTRODUCTION
This study was conducted to find out if the employees of Binani had a Work- Life Balance. Work-life balance has been cited as a standard measurement of quality of life in any organisation. Simple definition of work-life balance is “a perceived balance between work and rest of life”. As demand on work has intensified after the post-globalised work environment, its reflections are visible in the attitude of the individuals also. More pressure on work in the work place for longer hours results in compromising with quality of life, which lead to work life imbalances especially in private firms.
1
THEORETICAL BACKGROUND For a proper Work – Life balance the following are very necessary:Family. Successful parenting, the culture of care and selflessness that are part of family life, requires energy, time, patience and a tolerance for mess and confusion Families need nurturing, and our responses have to be sufficiently deep and elastic to accommodate the unexpected, not just the scheduled bits that fit in neatly with our jobs. Home. Home making is time-consuming. In the making of a home we create an atmosphere that reflects our sense of place in this world. The home provides us with an extension of ourselves, a place where we can feel free in our emotions and content to be who we really are. The paradox is that the more we work, the more desperate we are to find such a home with its timeless associations and the less time we have to create it. Homes can so easily become houses, pit stops that provide briefly for sleep, rest and the bare essentials in the intervals between work. Friendships. It’s often been said that the art of friendship requires common skills to an uncommon degree: a combination of affection, tolerance and patience as well as a sense of constancy in times of struggle and difference. Yet when our work-life balance spirals out of control, often friendships along with exercise are the first things to suffer. Community. Like family, home and friendships, our local communities that we are in are also vital to work –life balance. It is the activity that our communal identity can be experienced and enjoyed. Hobbies, interests and sporting pursuits derive much of their meaning through our interaction with others. If we fail to address the issues of work-life balance as a society then one of the first casualties will be the richness and diversity of community life.
