occupies a whole range of industries such as 2eavy ,lectricity Machinery. Turbines,
Eenerators, Transforers, #witchgears, Te0tile Machinery etc. The )nde0 of )ndustrial

rates ranging fro B+ to 'F+.
Thought there was soe signs of recovery in the third "uarter of '**'?'**D the
stiuli sees to have dissipated "uic!ly. The proble with the cotton te0tile sector has
also continued to perfor badly in the last two years. The only positive developent is
the easures announced for the te0tile industry in the recent budget.
Trends across ajor sectors show that growth in the two lead sectors?capital
goods and .Gl!,.l,.,0zcc>consuer non?durable goods?have decelerated but still
reain at the double?digit levels. This has, however, been copensated by the strong
recovery in the interediate goods segent. 5 ajor concern is the lac!luster
perforance of the consuer durable goods segent over the last year with production
declining for the first tie since theed?nineties.

VALVE & PUMPS INDUSTRY
5 valve is a device that regulates the flow of fluids 3either gases, fluidized solids, li"uids4
by opening, closing, or partially obstructing, various passageways. $alves are used in a
variety of applications including industrial, ilitary, coercial, residential,
transportation, etc
They are ainly used for safety purposes in stea engines and doestic heating or
coo!ing appliances. -thers are used in a controlled way in -tto cycle engines driven by a
cashaft, and they have a ajor part in engine cycle control.
5 %up is a device that anages the needs of fluids 3either gases, fluidized solids,
slurries or li"uids4 by puping . %ups are used in a variety of applications including
industrial, ilitary, coercial, residential, transportation, etc.
AN ORIGIN OF THE INDUSTRY
The developent of control and instruentation sector has undergone
transforation in phases. ,arl y processes were relativel y siple and plant
size sal l. Measuring instruents were ounted directl y on the process
lines. Monitoring and recording of easured values were perfored by
plant
-perators. 5s the plant size and process cople0i t y increased, the
nuber of critical paraet ers that needed to be easured and onitored
also increased. This led to the re"uireent for a centrali zed onitoring of
process variables, and the introduction of signal transit ters and
transission techni"ues. The first syste eployed pneuatic transitt ers
of the forced balance type. Manual control gave way subse"uentl y to
autoat ic control ipleented through pneuatic controllers. &ater
electronic controllers began to gain ground.
