This report summarizes the Project progress from 4th January 2014 to 1st February 2014. As mentioned in the project topic, the aim of the project is to analyze the real life case of Delta Airlines’ merger with Northwest Airlines. So far, the group has conducted literature review of the case from various sources including but not limited to internet, related journals, news articles and theoretical perspective from the text book. The group has also contacted Delta Airlines’ CEO for first hand inputs (reply is awaited). From review of literature, it is evident that the case pertains to the period April 2008 -Oct 2008. This horizontal merger in aviation industry has created the world’s biggest airlines in terms of fleet size. The fact that it took more than 14 months post the closure of deal to start flying as a unified carrier in Jan 2010 underscores the complexity and hence the learning opportunities in this M&A case. The group has divided the project task in to following broad elements:
• • • • • External Environment Study: Analysis of Internal organizational aspects Business Case for M&A Post merger scenario Learning from the case

The group would be using available tools of analysis such as Porter’s five forces, value-chain analysis etc. Bankim Samaddar Khushal Mallik Prashant Singh 26NMP20 26NMP28 26NMP35
