Although there is no specific regulation that says a pregnant girl should be expelled, school authorities define pregnancy as bad behaviour and consequently sets a bad example for others.
Lack of specialised facilities and trauma have been cited as the reasons why such students should be kept away from the rest. Even after delivery, they are not allowed back to the same school.
The education ministry spokesman, Aggrey Kibenge, and the assistant commissioner for comprehensive education, Robinson Nsumba-Lyazi, believe pregnancy while at school is a case of indiscipline.
