What is Power?
Power is a term which is defined in different ways by different theorists because it can be used as a means of influence in different ways. “ Power is one of the means to influence others for getting results.” So, when we use power; we’re utilizing our authority to get something.

1.) COERCIVE POWER:Coercive Power is associated with people who are in a position to punish others. People fear the consequences of not doing what has been asked of them. E.g..- demotion, suspension etc.
2.) REWARD POWER:Reward power is based upon a person’s ability to bestow rewards. This power is based on the saying that “wealth is power.” And the symbolic rewards may be a pay rise, promotion etc.
3.) LEGITIMATE POWER:?
Legitimate power comes from the position a person holds. This is related to a person’s title and job responsibilities. It is also termed as POSITIONAL POWER. For eg. “he/she is my supervisor” or the general feeling of being obligated to comply with a superior. Referent Power is based on identification. It based on the identification with the person who may have some form of power. People who are well-liked and respected can have referent power.

5.) EXPERT POWER:This power is based on the famous proverb “KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.” That is why any person who is not easily replaceable has more power as compared to those who are easily replaceable as this power is based on special skill or knowledge.
