An organisation with more than 150 years of service the India post which today boasts of one of the largest network of offices in the country, is on a decline side. There are over 1,55,000 post offices located across the country- India ranks among he top three in the world in terms of post offices including in the most remote regions.

Nearly 1,40,000 of the post offices are located in rural areas. Unfortunately, a little over five per cent of total post offices have computers or other modern gadgets and because of the emergence of private couriers service with a professional approach to the business and the indifference from the political parties for any kind of reformation, so far is there any good future for our post office.

Even though the progress is slow in upgrading the post offices to a more meaningful way to the public considering its extent of its coverage in Indian population, they are trying to make it more popular by introducing different strategies like transferring of funds from gulf countries, accepting insurance premium etc.

In near future, I think if post offices can convert into a banking like institution by with fully computerized net working then it would have real chances of a good future and can reduce its current deficient.
