Polygamy

Polygamy is the state or practice of having two or more mates at the same time, this includes both Polygyny and Polyandry. The law should recognise freedom of choice. If I want to marry more than one person, why should the state stop me? If my partner agrees to the addition to the family, then why should the state presume to say it knows better?

Polygamy is proscribed mainly to avoid a man cheating a wife and getting married for the second/third time. Permitting polygamy is like opening an ATM door for a thief.

The main effect of polygamy is the creation of a class of men who can't find wives. There are roughly equal numbers of men and women in the world. Every time a man takes 4 wives, 3 other men can't find one. In places where polygamy is comman, those numbers can quickly add up to 15-20 percent of the population.

Polygamy is most common is places where women don't have civil rights. When women can get an education, hold a job, own property and vote, they don't choose to go into polygamy.

Economies of polygamous countries are effected negatively when there are a lot of men without wives and families and when women are restricted in how they can contribute to the economy.

The most recent name that we can recall almost immediately is the former Haryana deputy chief minister Chander Mohan, who publicly declared his love for his assistant advocate-general Anuradha Bali, now renamed Fiza.

But according to the latest update, the minister is back to his first wife Seema Bishnoi. This whole drama portrays the tragic story of the two women, who are the innocent victims of this social practice of polygamy.

according to me polygamy should never be encouraged becuase in 90% of cases it would the male who would be indulged in this act, creating more problems for female society...

I belive a man can marry more than one once if he gets a NOC certificate from his previous wive(s).

So,country is indirectly supporting polygamy.

Why is polygamy accepted in the society more for men than women?
The norms created for marriage is to be faithful to one for the rest of ur life isnt it? :s

Polygamy would be unfair on the on the wives of the person involved in polygamy. Even if all his wives agree to the situation, the duty of law is to look after their interest.
