Close to 4,000 second-year post-graduate (PG) students at the Symbiosis International University (SIU) here will now have the option of continuing with advanced studies for additional three years, leading to a unique multi-disciplinary integrated PG-Ph.D degree.
The move is a part of SIU's decision to bring research activity from all its existing seven faculties under an overarching set up, meant for promoting multi-disciplinary research projects with involvement of the industries. "This will enable us bring industrial research to our campus besides facilitating work by students on live projects in the industry," SIU principal director Vidya Yeravdekar said.
"We have set up three research clusters in social science & humanities; technology and design; and health and biomedical sciences, to facilitate the PG-Ph.D studies," said SIU vice-chancellor Bhushan Patwardhan while speaking to reporters on the eve of the National Education Day.
