Pepperdine Success Story
Success Story
Pepperdine University Business School – Enhanced Learning
Pepperdine University's George L. Graziadio School of Business and Management enrolls approximately 2,000 students in its full-time and fully-employed degree programs. The school was founded in 1969, and has since graduated over 30,000 alumni. In a project to promote student and teacher collaboration on campus, the e-learning team introduced Yammer to the Pepperdine faculty, staff, and student body. Beyond helping collaboration and connecting the university, Yammer has enhanced the teaching and learning process at Pepperdine.
“We conducted a thorough evaluation of the best collaboration tools and Yammer made the most sense. Simply put, it’s been an exceptional tool for connecting students, faculty and staff.”
- Susan Gautsch, Director of e-learning, Graziadio School of Business

Solution
The Grazidio School of Business at Pepperdine has two Yammer networks: one for faculty and staff communication, and one for faculty, staff, and students. Within the faculty and staff network, people have connected that otherwise wouldn’t have. Faculty and staff collaborate across the university’s five dispersed campuses, breaking down geographic communication silos. In the student network, professors have used Private Yammer groups to facilitate class discussions. Existing forum and message board tools typically used in education settings “weren’t cutting it” says Susan Gautsch, Director of e-learning. She has seen Yammer significantly lower the barrier to entry for student participation: “Students can easily see what others are saying and can quickly deepen the discussion.”
Results and Benefits
? ?
?
Connections occur that otherwise wouldn’t: Faculty and staff can connect to more people in less time, allowing for a more open and collaborative workplace. Breaking down communication silos: Yammer allows faculty, staff and students to communicate across departments and geographic regions. Enhanced learning: Teachers use private Groups to easily facilitate class discussions.
