Opening of liquor shops in residential areas .....

Opening of liquor shops in residential areas has transformed into a drunkard's paradise. It makes life a veritable hell for the local residents and the local shopkeepers.

According to shopkeepers, drunken brawls are rampant and all this is happening under the very nose of local police. There are instances where scrap dealers or rickshaw pullers have been reduced to penury because of their addiction to alcohol.

Local commuters complain that even auto drivers remain drunk and demand arbitrary rates. In addition to fouling up the business prospects of the entire market, cases of chain snatching, even teasing, theft, accidents, etc., are on the rise after the opening of this liquor shop inn residential areas.

The owner of the wine shop has also installed an electricity meter in the basement. Violation of law never looked so easy before! not only this, the shop owners sell liquor to minors, even though Rule 36-G of AP Excise Act and Rule 45 of AP Indian Liquor and Foreign Liquor Rules bans the same.

The chance of a kid becoming an alcoholic is 40 per cent higher when the shop is located within the residential area and by the time they are 10 to 11 years old they start drinking themselves. Therefore they should be closed immediately and this social evil should be removed from the society.

what are your views to this.........

it is very obvious tht wine shop in the neighbourhood wil create lot of problems.. now the point here is not to discuss on the positives and negatives, but to discuss on how to tackle the problem and the effect of wineshops on the stakeholders.

The goverment is at a fault here. They only can stop this menace without caring much about Revenue from Liquor....

We would have something called "SLZ" ...Societal Liquor Zones....Ppl who are interested can get into the zone and drink...This zone should stay farthest from Schools,Residential areas,Hospitals,Religious places and can be near to a police station. There should a cap be put in no.of liquor shops/state and this will go in atleast not increasing the shops. This cap should be decided based on the drunkard population in that particular state. This SLZ must be located on the outskirts of the city.Ppl who are desperate can travel and have fun w/o disturbing the common man.

As per government rule there should be no liquor shops in the area near educational institutions, residential areas and hospitals but the majority of the liquor shops cities are breaking the rules opening in the restricted areas. Government should take the major action instead of seeing the liquor business as a source money for them.
