Opening of liquor shops in residential areas has transformed into a drunkard's paradise. It makes life a veritable hell for the local residents and the local shopkeepers.
According to shopkeepers, drunken brawls are rampant and all this is happening under the very nose of local police. There are instances where scrap dealers or rickshaw pullers have been reduced to penury because of their addiction to alcohol.
Local commuters complain that even auto drivers remain drunk and demand arbitrary rates. In addition to fouling up the business prospects of the entire market, cases of chain snatching, even teasing, theft, accidents, etc., are on the rise after the opening of this liquor shop inn residential areas.
The owner of the wine shop has also installed an electricity meter in the basement. Violation of law never looked so easy before! not only this, the shop owners sell liquor to minors, even though Rule 36-G of AP Excise Act and Rule 45 of AP Indian Liquor and Foreign Liquor Rules bans the same.
The chance of a kid becoming an alcoholic is 40 per cent higher when the shop is located within the residential area and by the time they are 10 to 11 years old they start drinking themselves. Therefore they should be closed immediately and this social evil should be removed from the society.
