The team from Indian Institute of Technology at Delhi may have captured the Oops.inccompetition at Passion ’11, but Institute of Management Technology-Ghaziabad students won praise from the team for their management skills.
Abhishek Gowtham and Sankalp Dwivedi from IIT – Delhi took top honours in Oops.inc – a competition concentrating on operations management skills – but they were amazed at the management abilities of IMT-G students organizing and running events at Passion ’11.
The pair indicated they had visited various events at the annual B-School festival and were highly impressed.
“They manage multiple events at a single time. They manage teams participating in different events without crossing time limits. This efficient management is very important for anyone looking for a career in management,” they said.
As for the Oops.inc competition itself, Abhishek and Sankalp termed it a “pretty good experience.” The case study teams were given to handle “was a perfect one” they said, involving concepts of supply chain right from supplier to customer.
“Events like this will help you to improve your morale,” they said, noting such competitions give students hands-on experience applying what is learned in classrooms to “what are real instances taking place in the industry.”
In short, they believe such events help bridge the gap between textbook theory and practical application.
The pair showed they have bridged that gap nicely, impressing the judges – Dr. V.K. Gupta, professor of operations management at IMT Ghaziabad and Kunal Ganguly, assistant professor of operations management at IMT-G – and walking away with the top prize of Rs 25000/- .
The IMT-G team of Rajesh M and Rakesh Purohit took second place and prize money of Rs 15000/-.
