The day started with the MU’s invocation song followed by the Chief Guest for the day Mr MN Singh’s address where he hailed the MU’s idea of providing the management gurus of tomorrow a channel to showcase their socially awakened side.
After a briefing by the MU Vice Chancellor Mr Rajan Welukar, what followed was a succession of well-thought, relevant and breakthrough ideas that would, if and when implemented, involve all the 6,50,000 students for social benefit. Here was a melting pot where not only did we get to put forth our idea for social benefit, but also got enlightened with some brilliant concepts that were presented by the other 14 groups that were shortlisted.
I would not shy away from saying that each and every idea was a winning idea in itself- a reassuring picture of how promising a management talent we have to lead the nation down a few years!
Our idea for social benefit was ‘’Share Market’’- an online portal that would allow students with an excess of academic material (like books, magazines, CDs, medical instruments etc.) to sell the same to students in need at almost 1/5th of the market price.
Though we did not end up on the winning side, the sheer appreciation and motivation that we got from the audience and jury alike will serve as a potent boost to us to go ahead and implement the idea ourselves once we are availed of the required resources.
I am grateful to the MU for providing us with an opportunity for us to think deep and come up with a novel idea that, for a refreshing change, did not put monetary profit as the primary aim but instead focused on maximum social benefit with the 6,50,000 students strong Mumbai University contingent as the driving force.
