Everyone has dreamt of being successful but the definition of this so called Success ; varies from one person to the other. Many of us want to stand on a pedestal and look at the plebeians toiling hard from above (most of us have burnt ants through the magnifying glass ; accept it or not) .
It is apparent that the top positions are exclusive and only a few are going to experience it in their lifetime.
There are many parameters from various fields at work in deciding who gets to sit on that elusive “chair”. Some of them are trivial and other a bit odd :
· Level of education / Discipline of Higher studies etc
· Personality Features & Emotional Intelligence
· Precedence of Birth
However in reality; lives and destinies are much more cob-webbed than this simplistic way of categorization. More and more people are finding their calling later and later into their life.
Most of treat success & failure like 1 or 0; adept at computing from a meagre age, we have taken the analogy of absolutism from there to everywhere it could possibly fit.
Coming back; what I wanted to look at was what is different between the people who break the ice early ad the others who are stuck eating seals in their igloos. This isn’t bad by any means. Igloos are way cooler both literally and figuratively than housing in the heart of Delhi.
Some characteristics that make them a bit different may be :
· Initiative to look beyond efficiency leverage in any relationship formal or informal.
· Instead of looking for nuts and bolts they identify people with certain strengths and shortcomings and optimizing their input to the dynamic system
· Unique perspective on things ( the uniqueness is subject to variation )
· Ability to stand ridicule; time and again.
· Standing up after every fall, like the time we learnt to ride a bicycle.
Well, saturation is another cause of most people not making it big. If someone from Neolithic period hadn’t rolled a log ; we wouldn’t be driving Porsches today.
