Winning and Runner-up teams will compete with the finalists from West, North and East at the India finals on 6th April in Mumbai



Bengaluru, March 07: Team Shudh from NIT, Surathkal has emerged as a winner in the Southern Regional Final of the CIMA Global Business Challenge (GBC) 2013 held in Bengaluru. The Pirates from Loyola College was the runner-up team. GBC 2013 also announced two awards - Best Business Report and Best Speaker. Team Parivartan from NIT, Thiruchirapalli received accolades for the Best Business Report and Shantanu Rai from team Shudh won the Best Speaker’s award. The winners were declared after a close contest; team Shudh and The Pirates will now compete for the India finals on 6th April in Mumbai, after the Western, Northern and Eastern region finalists are declared.

The 5th CIMA GBC 2013, a unique global case study competition for undergraduates, flagged off with a huge response from students across the country. After an unparalleled success for the last four years, the 5th edition of the CIMA GBC 2013, witnessed over 470 teams from various colleges of immense repute across India registering for the competition. For the Southern Finals the seven teams were chosen from 162 teams, on the basis of the case study report that was submitted. This year’s case challenge is based on the Toy industry. The selected teams analyse, report and present their cases to these eminent judges. The Indian winners of the GBC 2013 will compete at the global level in South Africa.

The teams have exhibited solid financial analysis and research abilities in showcasing their case studies to the panel of judges. We congratulate team Shudh and The Pirates for the India Finals.”

The Southern regional finalists come from varied academic backgrounds. The seven teams who participated in the south regional finals of GBC 2012 are Parivartan - National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapalli; Vyaapar - Vasavi College of Engineering; The Pirates - Loyola College; Suits - National Institute of Technology, Thiruchirapalli; Shudh - National Institute of Technology Karnataka; Illuminati - Shadwells International Business School and Et Mayons Consulting - Jain University.

The competition was assessed by a panel of judges, namely - Mr. Harish Vittal, Vice President, Finance, Barclays; Mr. Vinesh Singh, Vice President, Reliance Retail Limited; Sumanth Muthukrishnan, Group Manager, Finance & Accounting Practice, Infosys and Suchitra Gopalan, Head – HR, IBM, Divya Goel, Head of Accounts, Brady Corp.
