The markets opened flat, traded within a tight range throughout the day amid high volatility and ended with modest gains. All the major sectoral indices ended on a flat note. Auto and Banking counters being the highest gainers. The Sensex closed at 17,992 up 34 points after trading in the range of 18,013-17,902 while Nifty was at 5,408 up 11 points after making an
intraday high of 5,415.
