The*benchmark*indices*broke*sharply*on*record*volumes*on*weak*global*cues*ahead*of*the*Oct*F&O*expiry.*The*sell‐off*was*across*all*the*sectors;*realty,*banking,*metal*and*telecom*stocks*worst*hit*in*today's*trade.*The*Sensex*closed*at*16,353*down*387*points*after*hitting*a*low*of*16,311*and*the*Nifty*slipped*down*124*points*or*2.5%*at*4,846*after*making*a*low*of*4,830.*Huge*sell‐off*was*seen*among*the*broader*indices;*the*BSE*Midcap*Index*fell*3.7%*and*Smallcap*Index*was*down*4.4%.*The*breadth*was*pathetic*and*markets*recorded*the*third*highest*total*turnover*ever*at*Rs*1.46*lakh*cr.*highest*F&O*turnover*ever.*The*Oct*nifty*future*ended*with*6*points*discount*and*the*Nov*nifty*future*ended*with*7*points*premium
