Markets end near 17 month high on strong global cues and buying from Institutional players. The Sensex gained 204 points to end at
17,231. The Nifty advanced 64 points to close at 5,118—its highest level since 16 May 2008 when it closed at 5,157. Metal stocks rose
sharply in today’s trade as global commodity prices gained on the back of a sliding dollar. Strong buying was also seen in banking, capital
goods and auto stocks. However, huge selling was seen in telecom, oil marketing and cement stocks. The market breadth was positive
throughout the day and total turnover of Rs 93,128 cr.
