The markets traded in a narrow range amid high volatility and ended with modest gains. Buying was seen in Banking, Metal, Oil & Gas and Reality counters while IT stocks witnessed selling pressure. The Sensex closed at 16,657 up 40 points after trading in the range of 16,817- 16,591. Nifty closed at 5,000 up 13 point after trading in the range of 5,050-4,980.
