The key indices ended on a negative note after remaining choppy and volatile throughout the session. The Sensex closed at 16,740 down 70 points after hitting a high of 16,938 and a low of 16,706. The Nifty shut at 4,970 down 26 points. Buying was seen in auto, IT and pharma stocks while selling continued in reality, banking, telecom, oil & gas and select metal stocks. The broader indices underperformed the benchmark indices; the BSE Midcap Index fell 1.8% and Smallcap Index was down 1.3%. The market breadth was negative and total traded turnover was at Rs 1,05,933 cr. The Oct nifty future ended flat and Nov nifty future ended with 11 points premium.
