The Sensex closed at 16,780 down 79 points after seeing an intraday low of 16,705. The Nifty closed at 5,007 down 28 points after touching a day's low of 4,983. Among the broader indices - the BSE Midcap Index was down 1.3% and the Smallcap was down 0.9%. The breadth remained weak and the markets reported total traded turnover of Rs 1,10,353 cr.
