Markets ended flat after a volatile session on the first day of the Feb month. Buying was seen in oil & gas, telecom, auto, pharma and metal stocks. The Sensex closed at 16,356 down 2 points after trading in the range of 16,422 - 16,160. The Nifty shut at 4,899 up 17 points. Among the broader indices - the BSE Midcap Index was up 1.81% and Smallcap up 2.72%. The breadth was quite strong since morning but the volumes remained lower.
