Paul, the Naval officer married Sandra after dating her for almost 2 years. World War II had just started by then. A few days after their wedding he had to leave for the battlefront. While on the front, he got the shocking news that Sandra had met a terrible accident and was on deathbed. When he reached the hospital she gave him an envelope and said "Please read the enclosed letter only when you are about to die" and she passed away. Paul was devastated with the tragic loss of his beloved wife.

It was a few months when Paul came to terms with her death and recalled the letter Sandra gave him. Curiosity got the better of him, and he took the letter to Steve, a close friend and colleague, asking him to read it without disclosing its contents. That way he will keep his promise, Paul thought. Steve got red with anger as he read the letter and almost threw him out of his office. That made Paul even more curious and largely suspicious about the letter's contents. He approached many of his friends and colleagues but whomever he asked to read the letter got infuriated.

Paul was sure that his wife had written something so offensive that no one can stand. Perhaps it was about her betraying the country or a secret affair. Life seemed worthless to him and he decided to end it, but not without reading the letter. The evening was freezing and miserable and the overcast sky made it look murkier. With a pounding heart, he took the envelope to the ship's deck. His hands were sweaty and trembling as Paul opened the letter and lit the torch. As he was about to read it...
