Is Munich Expensive?

I find Munich quite expensive. Apartment rental prices depend primarily on the proximity to the U- or S-bahn stations or other public transport nodes, and only partially on the proximity to the city center. Electricity is more expensive. Taxi and Über prices are comparable, to me they feel almost equal. Public transport is a bit cheaper thanthe other big cities like NYC. The internet connection (that typically comes via ADSL) is about €40 per month.

groceries are cheap, with little exception for chain fast food and genuine Italian restaurants. At the same time, quality is a bit higher. There are stores though that charge above the market, for example, Basic. Germans don’t care much about things being gluten-free, organic or whatever, so the prices just don’t heat up out of thin air, fortunately.
