MUMBAI: When the whole state was waiting to give a rousing welcome to Dhoni and his men for their T20 world cup victory, Mumbai police have quietly defused six home-made bombs in the northern suburb just before the start of the victory parade.

Mumbai police's anti-terrorism chief said on Wednesday that the bombs were found in the northern suburb of Andheri late on Tuesday and were immediately defused.

"We don't think this has anything to do with terrorism," K P Raghuvanshi said.

Another police official said the bombs could have been meant for use by criminal gangs. They were discovered on the eve of a huge welcome for India's triumphant Twenty20 cricket World Cup squad.

The players arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday to a massive victory parade with hundreds of thousands of joyous fans braving rain to cheer their heroes.

The bombs were recovered in the backdrop of the bombing of the city's railway network about a year ago killing 187 people.
