On the 4th of August 2011, a hundred and twenty students with dreams in their eyes and pride in their hearts set forth on a journey of a lifetime by becoming a part of the prestigious Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies. To make this rite of passage even more memorable, the batch was graced by Mr. Sanjeeb Chaudhuri, the regional head, South Asia and group CMO, Consumer banking for Standard Chartered Bank and an Alumnus from the 1975 batch, who shared with the students some of the pages of his own life and the experiences that he had gained along the way.
The interactive session began with Mr. Chaudhuri emphasizing on the importance of hunger for achieving success which eventually leads to self-actualization. He gave a company’s perspective of what are the essential parameters looked at in a prospective candidate while recruiting, explaining that “You hire for attitude and train for skills”. He highlighted the need for “Passion and Focus” in order to succeed in life.
Quoting the example of Apple Inc, he emphasized that in today’s world of competition, it is innovation and the right mind-set that set a company apart. He explained how the structure of the market and the industry has changed over the years, and how students needed to adapt to this. He highlighted that consistent mental agility will be one’s biggest asset.
The interaction was interspersed with a number of interesting snippets. One such instance would be his response to the query “Which good management books to read?” to which he replied, “Books are many. But Experience is the best book. Try to read the basics of life!”
He concluded the session by asking the vibrant bunch of students to keep their minds open and always look at the glass as half full. Mr. Chaudhuri, thus welcomed the batch to the fraternity of JBIMS, and they responded with a rapturous applause. He left the students with a sense of determination and excitement, as they would now prepare to write their own books of experiences at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies.
