Money is Motivator ?

yes I agree with above statement...

"Money is not Everything...
but without money there is nothing"

I am also agree, after spending most of the time in the office, and after hard working, one should get desirable pay scale. This is not only motivate the person, but company can also retain their employees in long term.

Money can buy:
A bed but not sleep
Books but not knowledge
Food but not appetite
Finery but not beauty
A house but not a home
Medicine but not health
Luxuries but not comfort
Pleasures but not happiness
Religion but not salvation.

Lets face it. Money is a powerful attraction!
----
However, I think Money is the greatest deception in a Management career!

Management careers can be termed successful not by the money they make, but by the value they add.

As young graduates and MBA candidates, you should be focusing on adding value to your work and not worry about the results. A good employer will make sure you are gratified for your efforts.

Money is a big motivator ofcourse..but not always..if we consider Maslow's need hierarchy..we will find that motivation can come from a host of other things like workplace hygiene factors, appraisals, recognition, working for a particular company, the job profile etc.

Money is a strong motivator for people at entry levels and upto some levels above that...but beyond a certain point the love for work, growth and opportunities takes the cake :)

But what i think, being a fresher you can compromise with the money, but once you are experienced it becomes more difficult to stay in the organization where one is not being paid as per his skills. And adding value to work place can be done only when inner satisfaction comes or you are a beginner during this time person is almost self-motivated, but time between these two transaction state is quite unpredictable and here money comes into the picture to motivate a person. :)

Arti..i respect your opinion..but what i feel that when someone climbs the corporate ladder high enough a good package becomes implied..it is when one starts working..along with the work itself money becomes a big driver as that is the time when someone starts earning for the first time, spending own money for the first time and a lot of things happen for the first time.. you dream of car of your own, a house and bank balance..but when you achieve all these things..some time down the lane its gonna be your love for your work that would be pushing you..the corporate world is mired with examples of people who had no hunger left for money after make it big on the corporate ladder..from Jack Welch to Ratan Tata..from Bill Gates to Anand Mahindra..ofcourse they love money but they like to make money for the company..while its the love of what they do is why they do it..:)

Definitely..Money always has been and always remain a motivator to different degrees for different people at different levels..:)

Money matters when a employee is not happy with his work or responsibility.
As money needed for every damm thing in this world but inner peace only comes when you have satisfaction with your work.

Initially money give satisfaction as quoted by prtk nayak but as u reached higher in corporates this became secondary and work profile matters at that time.......

I completely agree with you siddharth..Money matters when you are not happy with what you are doing. As they say..choose a work which you love and you wont have to work a single day in your life...:)
I think we should also consider various intrinsic and extrinsic motivators that come to play when one works.

Other factors that need to be consider are family, place, availability of education facility for children, recreation activities conduct by company, :SugarwareZ-293: learning and development program for self and family members, facilities provided by company like residence, communication (telephone, mobile), transportation........

If u get this things from ur organization than its a kind of virtual money that u received and this motivates u stay at same place or company. :bounce:

Ofcourse..motivation comes in different ways for different people..

Sometimes even the company name itself is the only motivation required to convert an average employee into a lifer in a company..:)

can anyone give me their point of view what are motivators for first generation entrepreneur ????

What are the main factors as they don’t have money………:SugarwareZ-200:

I believe it depends, on the perspectives of the entrepreneurs as well.

I think successful first generation entrepreneurs are the ones that are motivated by the thought of bringing about a change. Those who are driven by the idea of earning more money, are actually barely successful.

Well I would agree that it has. Monetary appreciations and compensations has become a common practice in various organizations. This has made the working individuals seek more of the monetary appreciations rather than peer apprecations. Peer appreciations are today considered less valuable and individuals are driven and motivated to perform well only by monetary means. It has grown to such an extent where individuals are measuring their job satisfaction only in terms of monetary rewards.

I agree on certain points discussed by Prtk and Arti...Money is obviously important but most evidence suggests that it is not a major motivator in the long term. To demonstrate this you can ask yourself “Why do so many wealthy people still continue work when they have no financial need to carry on working?” This question could be explained using Maslow’s needs of self esteem and self actualisation. People have a need to try to fulfil their potential and gain satisfaction. They can do this through work.

Using money as a motivator in business can lead to serious problems for both employees and the business itself. Due to the level of financial rewards fluctuating within the business, it can cause uncertainty in financial planning if employees become dependent on financial rewards. This could lead to problems for the employees including stress and anxiety if they struggle without their bonus. :yo:
