19-yr-old kidnapped employee’s son to seek revenge: Police
In a bid to seek revenge from his employer for sacking him from the job, a 19-year-old tried to stage an act of kidnapping his employer’s 7-year-old son Mahfooz, only to be traced and arrested by the police.
The victim’s father Abdul Rehman Khan, 28, a welder said, “One of my office boys received a call around 9.15 am on Wednesday. The caller did not identify himself and enquired about me.”
Fifteen minutes later, Khan’s wife Fatima came to his workplace and said that a man who identified himself as Mohammad Hanif and an employee of her husband had come to their Sakinaka residence and told her that Khan had met with an accident in his office. At the time of the incident, Fatima had left her three children Mahfooz (the victim), Sohail and 18-month-old daughter Ayesha at home.
“I told her that someone must have played a prank. When she returned home, our son Mahfooz was missing. We later registered a complaint at the Sakinaka police station,” said Khan.
“The police asked Sohail about the incident. Since he was too young, he could only manage to say ‘Ikraam chacha ghar aaye the’ (Ikraam uncle had come to home). Acting on this information, the police started their investigation,” said Khan.
After tracing the calls received, wherein the abductor had demanded a ransom of Rs1 lakh, the police cracked the case. “We traced calls made to Khan to different locations such as Sakinaka, Chembur and Kalyan. Acting on this, we went to the locations on Thursday morning and found the child at Baagi Mohammadi Hotel in Kalyan (W) around 4.30 am. When we inquired with the hotel manager, he told us that Ikraam Saifi, 19, had kept the child there and told him to take care of him,” said additional commissioner of police (West region), Bipin Bihari.
“Since Ikraam thought that he was sacked from work, he was looking for an opportunity to take revenge,” added Bihari. Ikraam has been remanded in police custody and the police have launched a manhunt for his accomplice Hanif.
