The Vedas are rich source of information on religion, culture, and politics and surprisingly even on management. Many Vedic scriptures promote innovation and dynamism. Their views on Human enterprise rely on:
YAJNA: which confers to sacrificing one’s need in lieu of the community’s benefit and,
SREYAS: it refers to prioritizing long term benefits over short patch up plans.
Ancient texts go into lengths to explain the importance of sharing and a primitive doctrine for harmonious growth.
According to the scriptures , business enterprises amidst the society is to be seen as a means for wealth , welfare , reaching out for socially desired ends , all the while not abandoning the ethics. If followed it was said to result in prosperity for both the individual and the community as a whole.
Now let us take a look at the current business practices. Business enterprises are said to be means for wealth, welfare; sprinting ahead of competition through result-oriented methodology; aiming at short term goals and assuming they’d integrate to a large scale.
People become inconsequential as the concept of worth comes in the picture. Even the top brass isn’t let off easily. A sword is left hanging over their armchair with a thin cord. In this scenario even donation to the community comes under scrutiny and termed as publicizing for their consequential propaganda.
We should look at our heritage and learn to take the road that leads to self fulfillment, enlightenment , harmony , optimism , and eventually a wholesome global community will come into the picture; One that doesn’t put [$] in at the end of every statement.
