Hartz Group based in New York City. The company's real estate portfolio was owned and operated under its Hartz Mountain Industries subsidiary company, of which he also serves as Chairman and CEO.[2]
Based in Secaucus, NJ, Hartz Mountain Industries has added property in Manhattan, Westchester, NY, Long Island, NY, and Maryland. In addition to its property operations through its 'Industries' subsidiary, The Hartz Group has an active and growing financial operation.

Leonard Stern, chairman of the Hartz Group, Inc., was recently
honored as the recipient of the 25th Anniversary Recognition Award as a
leader, visionary and humanitarian by the Meadowlands Regional Chamber
of Commerce.

"On behalf of the members, directors and officers of the
Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce, I thank Leonard Stern, the
chairman of the Hartz Group, for honoring us by allowing us to honor
him," said Ron Wiss, chairman of the Meadowlands Chamber of
Commerce. "For 25 years, Leonard Stern and Hartz have breathed life
into these Meadows - no one could ask for more."

Forging his example as a "partner in progress" with the
continual growth of the Meadowlands, Stern announced he has established
a $250,000 fund to support a charitable philanthropic organization in
the Hackensack-Meadowlands district, which is comprised of Kearney,
North Arlington, Jersey City, Lyndhurst, Rutherford, East Rutherford,
Moonachie, Carlstadt, Little Ferry, South Hackensack, North Bergen,
Ridgefield, Teterboro and Secaucus.

Stern's mark in the Meadowlands has been dramatic. A vibrant
local and regional economy has been nurtured by his efforts. Hundreds of
first class corporate and commercial enterprises, innovative
transportation improvements, health care facilities, retail complexes,
an Exposition Center, an array of first class hotels, and remarkable
achievements in environmental reclamation stand out.

"Clearly no one individual did more to get the juices flowing in
the Meadowlands," said Richard Fritzky, president of the
Meadowlands Chamber of Commerce. "Leonard's vision, investment
and big picture perspective not only gave life to what he and Hartz
physically accomplished in Secaucus, but to all the good that occurred
throughout that region in the past 25 years. Truly, Leonard Stern was a
leader. No one did more to put in place the miracle of the
Meadowlands."

Stern's success and tremendous growth of the Hartz Group Inc. is
rooted in the simple fact that he sees desirable ends and outcomes - the
people and societal impacts first - and then acts with passionate
determination to resolve. Because he does that, everyone who does
business in the Meadowlands has been positively affected - as have
Yeshiva University, New York University, The Manhattan Day School, The
Legal Aid Society, 'Homes for the Homeless,' The New York City
Partnership, The Holocaust Memorial Commission and many others. The
collective good of literally countless people has, in so many ways, been
advanced by him.

He and his family have continued to contribute mightily to fulfilling
the promise of this region. What for so many others was a dream, has for
them been a living working reality.

New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business is launching a new Bachelor of Science program in Business and Political Economy (BPE) in 2009. NYU Stern hired Widmeyer Communications to assist with the launch by generating awareness among prospective high school students and their key influencers and by positioning the Stern Undergraduate College as an innovative leader in education with a global perspective.
Communications Challenge
NYU Stern’s objective is to attract a pool of high-level applicants, with the goal of enrolling 50 students into the program’s first year. However, marketing a degree that will not exist for a full year presents a challenge; without students who can speak directly to the benefits of the program, creative new tactics must be considered.
Strategy
Widmeyer devised a strategic communications plan and launched a multi-pronged marketing campaign to obtain earned media coverage, leverage new media marketing tactics and enhance recruitment through a strong partner network of high-achieving student and student-influencer organizations and groups.
Tactics
Widmeyer pursued earned media placements in higher education trade publications, mainstream media and influential blogs to position the NYU Stern Undergraduate College and Dean Sally Blount-Lyon as authorities regarding the important role business, politics and economics play in a global marketplace.
Widmeyer also leveraged social media tools and digital technologies such as Facebook and others to reach prospective students and influencers online.
Results
Widmeyer secured an opinion editorial by Dean Sally Blount-Lyon in Inside Higher Education, a feature article in Tomorrow’s Business Leader, a publication of the Future Business Leaders of America and a letter-to-the-editor in the Chronicle of Higher Education.
Widmeyer worked with NYU Stern to build and populate a Facebook Group for the BPE program—targeting prospective students—to provide an informal setting where group members could find and post information as well as discuss the program and relevant issues. The BPE Facebook group has grown to include over 180 members from around the world.
To also reach prospective students, Widmeyer provided the blueprints to build a BPE slideshow of images representing the experiences and culture of the program. The slideshow exists in the BPE page of the NYU Stern Undergraduate Web site.
Further, we provide ongoing support to the NYU Stern Undergraduate School to disseminate information online and through social media networks.
