Well as far as i know it means giving people a sack like when you fire some one from work...i guess its just a polite way to put it ' laying off workers'..

no dear its when.. projects are less.. workers are layed off.. nd compensation is goivin to dem..nd are called bck wen required dis is wat im clear with.. bt wanna knw mre abt it..

So it mean thats people are taken out of their job and given benefits in the form of money etc doesnt that also mean polite way of sacking them cuz either way they are taken out of their job.

Yes ofcourse, it essentially means what karishma pointed out.

To add to that, such a situation seldom arises in a private company, only if there is a global recession etc.

This kind of things are very prevalent in psu's where there is less work, more people are employed and they have job security.
