at times, it is a decisive factor in selecting a service
provider. There are different strategies for pricing IT
services, with distinct benefits and risks attached to
each of them. So, selecting the right mode largely
depends on the level of maturity of relationship

Under this model, the client pays a flat fee for a piece
of work as per the project scope. The project is billed
in equal amounts at predetermined intervals such as
monthly, quarterly, or when certain predetermined
milestones are met. This model helps clients to exactly
determine the project budget in advance. However, it
tends to be less flexible in instances where the scope
of a project is hazy.
Under this model, the client is charged on the basis of
the amount of time and resources expended on a
project. The hourly or daily rates for resources vary
based on their skill-set and experience; this is agreed
upon before the engagement is commenced. Later,
depending on the length of the project, the client is
billed typically either monthly or quarterly.
Value-based Pricing
Service Catalog – ‘Pay-per-use’
Value-based pricing works on a risk/reward model,
where the client is billed based on certain business
objectives being met, such as generating a certain
amount of revenue for the client or certain
pre-determined cost savings. Typically, the client is
billed partially on project completion, while the
remaining contract value is billed on achieving the
stated KPIs. For example, an engagement may involve
improving the purchasing demand fulfillment ratio by
10%. In this scenario, the client makes a partial
payment on solution implementation while the rest of
the payment is made on reaching the KPI goals.
For ADM engagements, L&T Infotech has developed
an innovative pricing model called service catalog that
provides substantial cost savings through its
transparency and flexibility. This model moves from
the traditional input-based estimation (number of FTEs
deployed) to output-based estimation, where pricing is
based on the number of issues resolved and
enhancement made. This gives a greater elasticity to
our clients in terms of utilization of services and
follows the concept of ‘pay-as-you-use’ as compared
to the rigid terms imposed by a multi-year fixed price
contract.

Under this model, the client pays a flat fee for a piece
of work as per the project scope. The project is billed
in equal amounts at predetermined intervals such as
monthly, quarterly, or when certain predetermined
milestones are met. This model helps clients to exactly
determine the project budget in advance. However, it
tends to be less flexible in instances where the scope
of a project is hazy.
Under this model, the client is charged on the basis of
the amount of time and resources expended on a
project. The hourly or daily rates for resources vary
based on their skill-set and experience; this is agreed
upon before the engagement is commenced. Later,
depending on the length of the project, the client is
billed typically either monthly or quarterly.
Value-based Pricing
Service Catalog – ‘Pay-per-use’
Value-based pricing works on a risk/reward model,
where the client is billed based on certain business
objectives being met, such as generating a certain
amount of revenue for the client or certain
pre-determined cost savings. Typically, the client is
billed partially on project completion, while the
remaining contract value is billed on achieving the
stated KPIs. For example, an engagement may involve
improving the purchasing demand fulfillment ratio by
10%. In this scenario, the client makes a partial
payment on solution implementation while the rest of
the payment is made on reaching the KPI goals.
For ADM engagements, L&T Infotech has developed
an innovative pricing model called service catalog that
provides substantial cost savings through its
transparency and flexibility. This model moves from
the traditional input-based estimation (number of FTEs
deployed) to output-based estimation, where pricing is
based on the number of issues resolved and
enhancement made. This gives a greater elasticity to
our clients in terms of utilization of services and
follows the concept of ‘pay-as-you-use’ as compared
to the rigid terms imposed by a multi-year fixed price
contract.
