Kalpavriksha
Ahvan, the annual management fest of IIM-Indore has come to be known as an event with a strong social fabric. One of the flagship events, Kalpavriksha offers due credence to this notion. Kalpavriksha is an Ahvan veteran that has been going strong for over six years now and has seen a phenomenal growth in both the quantity and quality of the submissions. The popularity of the event has crossed the national borders with participation each year from eminent B-Schools abroad including The Harvard Business School and Kellogg School of Management.
The event is based the idea of a novel merger between social upliftment and sound business acumen. Participants are challenged to come up with business plans that are sustainable and socially relevant. A jury dissects and questions the viability and the implementability of each plan presented. The event is running in three categories this year, the B-Plan category, the social enterprise category and a special Morarka Organic grouping. Kalpavriksha is open to students of management, IIT’s, NIT’s and also corporates and social enterprises. Along with the distinctive requirement of the B-Plan, the insights and suggestions offered by the judges have offered an enriching experience to the participants.
Last year, the event witnessed participation from all around the country and few entries from abroad. The contest was closely fought over four phases and was finally won by Team Pandoras Box from IIM-A in the B-Plan category and Team Braille Sense from Segito Technologies in the social enterprise category. They walked away with impressive cash-prizes of Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 70,000 respectively. Kalpavriksha also enabled Rajesh Mane, a member of the winning team to pursue his passion and implement his innovative ideas by obtaining funding from Blue Lotus Capital.
This year, the event has returned in all its glory with over a hundred entries received for the first round. The quality of the submissions was greatly appreciated by Stabaka Consulting, the evaluation partner of Kalpavriksha. 31 top teams will now be offered a chance to contest in the finals and they will be aided in their submissions by the PaloAlto software from LivePlan.com.
As an agent of change, Kalpavriksha goes a long way in helping participants put that plan into action by helping them with seed funding. A special category has been created this year for an organic agribusiness plan that is being sponsored by Morarka Organic. The winning team in this category will receive funding upto Rs. 10 lakhs. Blue Lotus Capital Advisors have also been much impressed with the entries and are open to provide funding from Rs. 15 lakhs to Rs. 1.5 crore to any entry that they believe to be a worthy contender.
Kalpavriksha has truly grown from a run-of-the-mill B-school event to one that does make a difference. It has touched and changed for the better the society we live in. [/b]
