JSW Steel records 19% growth in crude steel output

: JSW Steel Ltd, the lowest cost steel producer in the world, has posted 19 percent growth in crude steel production in May 2008 on a year-on-year basis including production of salem works.

The company has also achieved 9 percent growth in rolled flat products (HR coils and plates) and 22 percent growth in rolled long products.

JSW Steel belonging to the US $8 bn O P Jindal group has announced the shut down of its hot strip mill for 17 days from June 12 for modernization of expansion of capacity from 2.5 MTpa to 3.2 MTpa.

The group has diversified activities in mining, power generation, steel, aluminium, cement and is largest exporter of galvanized products.
