JBIMS has always been known for producing the best of the industry worldwide. From corporate houses to government services, JBIMS has made its mark globally. Continuing with the tradition of hosting thought leaders at the campus, the students of JBIMS had an interactive session with a distinguished alumnus of the batch of 1976, Mr. Suresh Kumar, who is nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Director General for the U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service at the U.S. Department of Commerce. He was accompanied by 3 other delegates from the Obama administration.

The motive of the session was to visit his alma mater and meet the budding managers from this institute. Mr. Kumar started by speaking about his experiences throughout his professional career. He began his career by working at a Multi National Corporation and thereon went on working for the Obama administration. He stressed on the importance of management education in the political arena as being a part of the Department of Commerce, his role is directly linked to working with the corporates. He went on to speak about the position of India in this globalised world, its economic growth, and the opportunities in different sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, civil aviation.
The students were all ears to hear about his life at JBIMS. From his experience at this institute, he advised the students that the best learning they could gain would be from robust discussions with peers and by exchanging thoughts and ideas with one another. The most important concept is the conversion of knowledge and education into practical ideas.
His message to the students was simple yet vital for today’s generation based on Gandhiji’s philosophy, “Be the change you want to see in the world”[/i].
Needless to say, these valuable words of wisdom coming from an illustrious alumnus was met with a resounding ovation. This interactive session provided a unique perspective which will certainly go a long way in honing the skills of all aspiring managers.
